Changes in the balance reflect the receipt of $1000 from Hi-Tech Bikes and payment of dues to the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition on behalf of club members (133x $5). There was an inquiry regarding the status of payment for insurance to BRDAA. Secretary’s report (Adrienne): The minutes from 1/13/03 were read and accepted. New Business MasterLink : Gordy reported that the next issue would be out about 2 weeks from 2/10, or around the end of February. This issue would contain a flyer for the upcoming hill climb TT and a flyer for the omnium, with a call for volunteers. Gordy requested assistance from other members in getting race results to him for inclusion in the MasterLink. Membership (Darryl) Membership is up to 135. Darryl noted that the club is paying SDCBC $5 for honorary members who do not pay dues and hence this is an uncompensated expense. The club also pays for members who do not live in the county. The consensus was that this is an acceptable expense. Gordy noted that of 290 people who were members of Cyclo-Vets on 10/28/93, 35 are still members. Omnium (Gary) Planning has begun. Sherry is handling permits, Ralph Elliot has agreed to do the announcing and other race services, and Cindy Yorgason will again serve as the Chief Referee. There will be cash prizes for all age groups and several categories for older riders have been added. Joanne and Pete Penseyres will help with registration. OJ will organize a food and beverage concession. Positions still open are volunteer coordinator and TT coordinator. Don reported that Chris Evertsen is getting donations of product for prizes, but so far, not much cash. An arrangement for product/cash sponsorship from company that makes storage racks and car-top carriers is pending. There was brief discussion about having trophies for omnium prizes. Clothing (Victor) Inventory will be brought to completion by the imminent arrival of clothing from Castelli. Hill Climb (OJ) A flyer has been prepared, though a few errors were noted. An advertisement will appear in the BRM and on the club web-site. Registration will be available on the day of race only. Volunteers are still needed. OJ also proposed that the club purchase a Seiko printing timer. The cost would be about $350 and would be split with San Diego Senior Olympics. Don inquired about the status of our application for “club of the year.” SDBC was awarded that honor, but the club did receive praise from Jan Luke in a letter. Open Forum: Sherry mentioned that she needs a check for $315 for USCF for the permit application. Darryl noted that the freebie newspaper Southern California Bicyclist has very out-of-date contact information for the club. Gordy reported that Dan Rock of B&L Bike and Sports is willing to offer club members a 15% discount on merchandise. This may produce a conflict with Hi-Tech Bikes, but several women in the club have said that B&L offers a better mix of clothing for them. Also, Dave Pain has proposed that the Senior Olympics in September be extended to 2 weekends. Gordy felt that this is excessive, especially if Cyclo-Vets provides volunteers. He suggested the club waive the $500 fee and simply become sponsors of the event. Gary felt that this subject merits further discussion and suggested that it be added to the agenda for next month. OJ suggested that the club hold another beach party in May and use the event to recruit volunteers for the omnium. The event could also be used to gather members for a club picture (Ray’s suggestion). The Saturday ride was again an issue; Gary noted that riders are running lights to avoid being dropped. The ride needs to be broken into groups with intervals between them. Some routes may need to be altered due to construction beginning in April.
