1996 - David Pain

We celebrated our twelfth anniversary in 1996 when I was club president. During my administration the membership grew to a remarkable record of 347. (The 2007 membership stands at a commendable 294.)

We were very competitive in 1996 and participated aggressively, particularly at the USCF Masters National Championships in Santa Rosa, California, where we again won the national team trophy. Bonnie Gabriel (58), Al Piemme (65), Margaret Nolan (65), Dan Wulbert (58), and Tom Hendricks (60) among other Cyclo-Vets were winners at the nationals.

The club was also well represented at the two-day Death Valley to Mt. Whitney race. We participated at the St. George Masters Games with a team of 23 men and women, including Ernie Marinoni (91), and Canadian Maurice Johnson.

For the third time, the club sponsored the Strictly Masters three-day race consisting of a time trial, criterium, and road race with 359 participating. The race grossed $8,230 and netted $1,177.
Race points checks for 1996 totaled $6,400 and the Greg Laney Memorial Fund stood at $635.
