Race Bible for Hi-Tech Carroll Canyon Hillclimb

HI-TECH Bikes Carroll Canyon Hillclimb "Race" Bible (Sat, Feb. 11th and 18th)

The sixth in a series of fun races everyone can do. This race is simply one
full climb up Carroll Canyon, which many of you do virtually every Saturday.
We hope each of you takes the challenge on the above dates during the
regular Cyclo-Vets Saturday rides (Carroll and Torrey groups.) As in all
races, here is what we call the "Race Bible" which has all the regulations
and directions you will need in order to do your race and report your
results.

1. These are the only rules that apply and I, Steve, have the final say on
all decisions.

2. *Racing Age:* Your racing age will be your age as of 12/31/2012.

3. *Who May Race: * You may race if you are a member in good standing of
Cyclo-vets. You can ride if you renew your membership or join prior to the
race date(s). No license of any kind is required, this is not really an
official race series. If your family has a paid Family Membership, the
family member(s) specified can participate, including your kids. So make a
day of it, take your kids out and let them enter. It's only one short
climb!!

4. *When is the Carroll Canyon Hillclimb?* You may race the course during
the Carroll and/or Torrey group rides on Saturday, Feb. 11th and/or
Saturday, Feb. 18th.

5. *Directions and Rules for the event:* This is not a wheel-to-wheel race,
but a timed event. It will be a "flying start", meaning you ride thru the
start and start your timer as you ride across the start line. The course is
about 1.1 miles long and 200 feet of climbing (see link to course below).
The start line is the transition from concrete back to asphalt at the bottom
of the canyon (see link to picture below.) The finish line is the large
electrical box on the right side of the road after Liquid Ct and before the
traffic light at Rehco St (see link to picture below.)

You may ride both weekends or just one. You may even ride it with both
groups if you like, for a maximum of four attempts. You may ride and work
with other riders. You may have someone pace you up the hill. Or you may
ride by yourself. However, you must be with the overall group ride in order
to report your time (see #6, below.)

6. *Reporting your results:* A "race official" will be with each group.
Gary DeVoss with the Carroll group and myself, Steve Schmidt, with the
Torrey group. When we regroup at the typical water stop location at 7585
Carroll Road, the race official will record your name, racing age, and time.
He will submit them to Jason Stratton later that day. Jason will compile
the results by 5-year age and gender groups and each rider's best time will
posted on the C-V website within a few days of the Feb. 11th event. After
the second weekend's event (Feb. 18th), your single best time from all
attempts will be posted in the final results. REPEAT: YOUR TIME WILL BE
REPORTED FOR YOU, BUT YOU MUST RECORD IT.

7. *Scoring:* Best time in each 5-year age and gender group earns 50
points, 2nd place earns 45, etc. Every rider who finishes earns a minimum
of 5 points (i.e., if you enter and finish you earn at least 5 points.)

The next intraclub race will be a road race on Sunday, February 26th on the
final day of the Great Western training series. As that is a "surprise
day", the course has not yet been finalized. Stay tuned!

Intraclub Crit Scheduled for January 7, 2012

2012 will have events for everyone. Mike Wilson is doing another
ultra-distance race. More crits. More TT's. More hillclimbs. More
mtb/cyclo-cross races.

FYI: congrats to Becky and James Eitelberg for winning a big gift
certificate at Hi-Tec for completing 3 ICRS races this year as brand-new
entrants. You can do it too. Show up on Saturday and join us at
Heunnenkens.

This series is a free benefit for being a member of the best cycling club in the USA.
