Pothole Warning Issued
After GW Loop Accident
The Great Western Loop has been one of the mainstays of the Cyclo-Vets training rides for years. It's a great place to ride, but it is not without its dangers.

On the club's November 23 Sunday ride, veteran cyclist Jacobo Melcer had just jumped onto the wheel of a tandem as the riders started down Skyline Truck Lane . Unfortunately, and understandably, Melcer did not see a pothole in his path. The jarring from hitting the pothole at a quick speed caused Melcer to crash and suffer facial, hand and other cuts. “Please,” said Melcer, “let the people that do the Great Western know to be careful in the spot.”

The accident happened on Skyline Truck Lane (Westbound / PM 2.5) (PM=Post mile) between Wisercarver Lane and Sky Trail Ranch, in front of mail box #17081 . Genaro Genel, a Caltrans worker, has filed a report with the maintenance department of San Diego County asking them to patch the pothole as soon as possible because this is a route heavily traveled by cyclists.
