How does a guy tell if he has gone too long without shaving his legs (assuming he does in the first place)?

A general rule of thumb for guys is to shave at least once a week.  Look at it as sort of a bike maintenance thing. You clean your bike once a week, you should shave once a week and preferably on a Friday so when the CyclingDivas see you on the club ride you are smooth and silken.  Of course, there are exceptions to the rule most involving the rate at which your hair grows.

For those who need more specifics, the CyclingDivas recommend the following tests to determine shaving readiness:

  • Visual inspection.  If you see hair on your legs, it is time to shave.
  • The credit card test.  Take a credit card and beginning at your ankle, move the card toward your thighs. Lots of resistance and noise? It is time to shave.
  • The sheet test.  When you get in bed at night, do the sheets sort of get caught up in your leg nubs?  It is time to shave.

Don't forget to use a moisturizing shave gel and never use the same razor on your legs that you use on your face.

What is the correct way for a "lady" to clear her sinuses while riding among both men and women?

Snot knows no gender my friend.  Ladies and gentlemen both must master the farmer's blow and be confident in it's execution regardless of who is in the pack.  All cyclists should refrain from taking a glob of mucus and discreetly placing it in one's glove. Talk about a slippery slope!  You could cause an accident by losing control  of your bike, or worse, where does it go when you pat your friend on the back to say hello? The CyclingDivas have witnessed many forms of sinus clearing but agree that these steps are the finest:

  • Be sure you have a full nostril.  Attempting this act with only partial fullness leads to spraying which is super rude.
  • Know which way the wind is blowing.  A no-brainer since you are, afterall, a cyclist; not to mention the fact that blowing on oneself causes profanity.
  • Get to the back of the pack or move way off to the side.  This step is actually the most difficult of all the steps for two reasons:  sometimes the wheelsuckers never let you get to the back and when the need arises, it's either too inconvenient to lose your place in the peloton or you just don't care who gets hit with your DNA...uber cyclingdiva disapproval on the latter.
  • Go for it:
    1. Firmly close one nostril with a finger or your thumb
    2. Turn your head opposite of the way the wind is blowing obviously not into the wind
    3. Do not sit up but push your head down, toward the pavement, and try to blow your brains out.  Repeat on the other side.
  • The combination of the wind, firm pinching of one nostril and a kick-ass blow should result in success.  Practice alone and remember, we all miss sometimes.
